How to use the caption formatter

  1. Paste or type your caption. Counts update as you type.
  2. Set the character limit for the platform you’re posting to, or tap a common value.
  3. Press Clean up spacing to remove doubled spaces, trailing spaces and runs of blank lines. Choose which clean-ups to apply with the switches.
  4. Press Move hashtags to end to pull hashtags out of your text and place them, de-duplicated, below the caption.
  5. Copy the finished caption.

The hashtag cleaner

Paste a list of words or hashtags in any format: comma-separated, one per line, or with and without #. The cleaner removes punctuation that breaks hashtags, joins multi-word phrases (so “road trip” becomes #roadTrip), and removes duplicates regardless of capital letters. You can lowercase everything or keep your capitalisation; capitalising each word (#WaikatoFoodTour) is easier to read and better for people using screen readers.

What each count means

  • Characters: every visible character, space and line break, counting emoji as one.
  • Words: groups of letters or numbers separated by spaces.
  • Lines and paragraphs: paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line.
  • Hashtags and mentions: words starting with # or @.

Formatting tips

  • Most feeds show only the first line or two before “more”, so lead with the point.
  • Short paragraphs separated by blank lines are easier to read on phones.
  • Check emoji and special characters display correctly before posting; some fonts don’t support every symbol.

Writing a link preview too? The social sharing preview counts title and description length for you.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the count differ from the app I post to?
Platforms count differently. CreatorKit counts what you see as characters, so an emoji or an accented letter counts as one. Some platforms count emoji as two or more, or count links as a fixed length. When your text contains emoji, the tool also shows the alternative count.
What character limit should I use?
Use the limit shown in the app you are posting to. The quick buttons are common values, but platforms change their limits and some vary by account type, so we let you enter any number.
Are my line breaks kept when I copy?
Yes. Copying keeps your line breaks exactly. Some apps remove blank lines or extra spaces when you paste; the clean-up options help you see what will remain.
How many hashtags should I use?
There is no single right number. Platforms and their guidance change, and relevance generally matters more than quantity. The tool counts and de-duplicates them so you can decide.
